Statement NG vs Phoenix USB-reclocker

Statement NG has a USB-reclocker installed internally,.USB-lite if I understand correctly.

How is the quality level of the above, compared to the external Phoenix USB reclocker in terms of delivered sound quality.
I think the internal USB-lite is powered by a better power supply, that might make it as good as the external one, or even better.

Would there be any advantage in terms of sound quality,.to connect the external Phoenix USB-reclocker to a Statement NG..??

As @Octaviars says, the USB section in the STATEMENT would not be classed as 'Lite' which was applied more to the PULSAR upon launch.
We've had a few reports that adding the PhoenixUSB to a STATEMENT Next-Gen can take it a little bit further, but it's very slight. You would get much more improvement from a PhoenixNET instead, for example, assuming there is not already one in the system.

And now,.a Statement NG from 2023.
My first question:
Do the short cables between the streamer and power supply have no marked direction indication.?

Asking,.because I have never experienced a cable that does not have a "best direction".

My second question:
The feet in the picture,.on the streamer and the powersupply.
Are these the current feet that are used today.?
Asking,.because there are different feet on each device.
And the feet that sit under the power supply are the same as those under my Zen and Zenith mk3.

Hi Peder, there is no direction on the power cables no - the only indicators are the arrows on the plugs to help guide pin-alignment when inserting.

Yes, those feet are the same as used today. You will notice on the server unit those feet have a bit more 'sping' to them and are asymmetric to reflect a similar asymmetric layout of the internal components, placing isolation under each vital stage.
On the power supply however, its a symmetrical design so the feet are as such, and the sheer weight of the requires more rigid feet. The vibration control is instead handled internally using the Panzerhold AVC on the ARC6 capacitor banks.

I have a few more questions,.I'll take one at a time.

On both my Zen and Zenith mk3 which are always fully turned on,.you almost don't feel that they are hot if you put your hand on top.

BUT,.on my Statement NG which has no power supply internally in the streamer part itself...
It gets quite hot when it is turned on all the time.
Just want to check with you if this is normal,.as it should be.

The separate power supply itself is almost completely cold.

The DC regulatorboards are in the server box and they do get warm so that is normal. The PSU box only contains the transformer and two AC/DC rectifier boards and they will not produce much heat so that box is much cooler than the server box.

Lower PSU box with transformer and rectifierboards.




Server box with the regulatorboards on each side of the chassi as this is a linear regulation some heat will always be produced by the regulators steping down the DC voltage from the rectifierboards in the lower box to the voltages needed for the motherboard, CPU, USB re-clocker, 5vdc USB output, LAN clock, cd drive for example.

A couple of reasons for this; the STATEMENT has no ventilation at all unlike other models that has airflow escape, so the STATEMENT chassis has to function as the heatsink. There is no outlet for normal convection.
Also, the heat is generated by components that are consuming power rather than producing it - and on that front, the CPU is the most 'hungry'. And don't forget, the STATEMENT Next-Gen specifically has current booster so that the CPU receives power more quickly to reduce latency, so does run more hot by comparison.

Hi ..Next question:
When I turned off my Statement NG to change the direction of the fuse,.yes, then it couldn't be turned back on.

I first turned it off with the front button,.and then the button on the back.
It took maybe a minute to turn the fuse,.then I first turned on the button on the back,and then the button on the front.

THEN,.the front button started to light up constantly white, it never connected the streamer.

I then turned off all the buttons and restarted everything again,.then the white "light" on the front button didn't come on at all.
I kept doing this for maybe 10-15 minutes before the front button suddenly started to light up again,.and the streamer connected.

Below,.a friend of mine wrote later, who
also has a Statement NG.

Innuos strongly recommends that you turn off the Statement NG only with the Sense app.
Because there are so many capacitors in the power supply, there may otherwise be some charge left in them so it may take a while to start before the capacitors are discharged. I got something like that explanation.
Only happened to me once but it might be good to think about.

ALSO,.what do I do if I have to change to a better fuse again, then I can't just turn off my Statement NG via the Sense app.

PS: It fits in my Mana Acoustic Reference rack for my headphone-system,.having it on separate shelves, despite the short link cable.
The soundquality was better than stacking the devices.

There you just turn it off,.reverse the fuse for example, and turn it back on without any problems.

The first thing to say is be careful with aftermarket fuses; whilst the 2A slow-blow type we supply works fine, we so rarely find that aftermarket ones at this spec work, and very often blow. Be warned!
The PSU is quite sensitive on the STATEMENT Next-Gen, so care needs to be taken when powering down the system and re-connecting etc. It has a high capacitance which does need quite a lot of time to allow for discharging before you re-connect the power cable and switch the unit back on at the rear mains. Generally, as long as you do this in a methodical order (off on front button/Sense command -> off at rear switch -> disconnect mains cable) and allow a good amount of time for discharge before powering up then you will be fine. The worst that will happen is that yes, sometimes the bootup sequence will not complete properly which is signified by the persistent white light.

Mk3 units will not behave the same way because the power architecture is completely different.

Regarding "aftermarket fuses", you should ALWAYS go up a fuse value vs the original fuse.
That recommendation is given by all hi-fi fuse manufacturers,.and I also read it earlier on InnuO's website regarding their section on fuses.
In the Statement NG's example from 2A to 3.15A.
I have evaluated many different brands of "hifi fuses",.and have come to the conclusion with my friends,that Synergistic Research fuses are the most musical.

I have Synergistic Research's best fuse "Master Fuse" in the streamer,.and their second best "Pink Fuse" in other devices, including the InnuOs Phoenix USB reclocker.
All of the above mentioned fuses are individually pre-listened in each device.
And the above gives the best musical engagement in my music system.
ALSO,.there is a clear difference in musicality vs the original fuse.

BUT,.start by listening for the best direction on the original fuse for the best soundquality.
It is very easy to hear,.if you are used to installing and optimizing music systems.

How long do you estimate I should wait to power my Statement NG back on.?

I mean,.I got worried and thought there was something wrong with my Statement NG when it wouldn't start.

You are certainly welcome to try other fuses and I am not disputing their impact one way or the other, just advising caution that I have found them to be quite unreliable in terms of resilience - hence why we need to suggest 3.15A rather than an ordinary 2A like we normally use and include the link to from farnell.com.
In terms of powering down to allow the capacitors to discharge, I would allow a full 5 minutes.

I would actually leave the link cables disconnected for the duration of the 5 minutes before connecting the new ones.
To my mind, no difference between pressing front power button to shutdown, or command via app.
