Hi everyone,

After the Sense 3.2 update, there has been a lot feedback regarding the SenseUPnP overhaul which is scattered across a lot of separate forum posts as well as support emails.

This thread is designed to centralise all of this feedback onto a single post, where we can look at specific UPnP models and systems and try to analyse these one by one.

We therefore invite you to post/comment here with the following information:
- Innuos model and OS version
- UPnP streamer you are streaming to
- The configurations that you have tested in the 'Configure Streamer'
- The behaviours/problems you have noticed with playback control and consistency. Please be as detailed as possible.

We also ask that before posting your finding here, please ensure you have tried at least once to use SenseUPnP with 'Compatibility Mode' engaged and with the Maximum Resolution support set to 44100 to test for differences in stability.

If you have further comments and observations about system and testing, please go back and EDIT your original post to add information, rather than adding further additional comments to the thread - this will make it much easier for our development team to keep track of when reading through this thread.

Thank you!

- Zen mk3 at Sense 3.2.1.
- Streaming to Naim NAC-n 272
- streamed with compatibility off, support DSD off, and display track data off, max sample rate 192000
- My issue is when streaming from Qobuz, I play an album, but at the end of each track the same track plays over again. Pressing next starts the same track playing again.

Continuing ...
Sorry @michaelb that problem was my own because I had engaged the repeat track button without noticing. With Qobuz, and display track data on for my UPNP streamer (a Naim NACn272) I see attempts to play a track for four seconds, a restart and infinite repeats of this sequence. When I turn display track data to off in the Sense UPNP streamer configuration, the problem is solved, the tracks play well.

Unable to Play Podcasts

Innuos Zen Mini Mk3 Sense 3.2.1 Innuos Standalone mode
Streaming to Naim ND5XS2 and Muso Gen 1 via ethernet only (Innuos DAC not used)
Compatibility Mode - no other Configurations are possible except max sample rate of 192 for Naim streamers, it appears.

Unable to play any Podcasts to either streamer - for example BBC Radio 3 Record Review Build a Library. It worked correctly prior to Sense 3.2 using the specific Naim UPnP profiles. When I select a Podcast it appears on the screen ready to play, but pressing PLAY has no affect. The time counter does not move and the PLAY icon changes back to PAUSE.

It appears that the new UPnP engine Compatibiliy Mode does not work for Podcasts.

I do not have problems playing music from the Zen internal storage or via Qobuz, or playing live radio streams.

- ZEN Mini Mk3 at Sense 3.2.1.
- Streaming via UPnP to HQPlayer on Linux X86_64 and Linux ARM 64-bits
- HQPlayers stream via NAA to Zenith Mk3 (connected to Weiss DAC204 via USB) and Khadas VIM3-L (connected to Denafrips Terminator via USB)
- streamed with compatibility On and Off , support DSD off, and display track data off, max sample rate 384000 and 768000
- HQPlayer logfile errors bad/corrupted frame header
- I setup a Lyrion Music Server (LMS) with open-source squeeze2upnp (Philippe) to produce the same error editing the upnp_config.xml file
- I can reproduce the errors in LMS, which are shown in the HQPlayer Daemon logfile, by changing <stream_length>0</stream_length> to <stream_length>-3</stream_length>. So with <stream_length>0</stream_length> no errors at all!

I checked the HTTP Mode settings in LMS squeeze2upnp Philippe and this are the values:
- Chunked <stream_length>-3</stream_length>
- If known <stream_length>-2</stream_length>
- No length <stream_length>-1</stream_length>
- Estimate <stream_length>0</stream_length>
- Fixed <stream_length>4294959103</stream_length>

My advice is to add the HTTP mode option in the Sense App/GUI so you can choose the "right" mode for your UPnP streamer ;-)

Hi - I've been using sense 3.2.1 and the new UPNP integration and I have some feedback/issues that I've been running across. First, some details:

- Zen Mini MK3 with linear power supply.
-Streaming to an Auralic Aries G1.1
- I've tried both compatibility mode and advanced settings.

I can't get anything to play via UPNP to the streamer if I try the advanced settings and am NOT in copatibility mode. This is unfortunate given my streamer supports DSD as well but I don't think I can take full advantage of that in compatibility mode.

Even in compatibility mode I'm having several issues:

For starters, album and track information does not appear to show on my Auralic screen.

Secondly, and more impactful than the above. Is that playback seems inconsistent. Sometimes music will play to the Auralic just fine. Other times I will try and play a track and it seems to be playing on the innuos app based on the track timing going up, however nothing is rendering on the Auralic. Other times a song will be playing and spontaneously restart or skip to the next track when I haven’t given any inputs to do so. Sometimes after having the music paused for a period of time, a song will Suddenly resume out of nowhere.

Thanks,

John

Many thanks for that tip! I have turned off compatibility mode and have both display track data and DSD support off for the time being and the random pauses have gone, including with local files. Have you got DSD support on?

@Timberwolf can confirm that Podcasts aren't streaming to either of my Naim streamers either. The situation is exactly the same as you described.

Hey guys,

So I have a Uniti Atom HE at home for testing and can report my findings with SenseUPnP so far with the ZENmini MK3 on 3.2.1. The Uniti HE is connected to the streamer port of the ZENmini which is connected direct to my router.

I've settled on the below settings

Compatibility mode - OFF
Support DSD - On
Display track data - On
Max sample rate - 384khz

So far, all appears to be working fine so far. I've just tested DSD playback with the great Love Kraft // Super Furry Animals album locally stored on the ZENmini with no issues. The Uniti HE displays the track info before defaulting to the album art screen. To clarify, it does not display artwork, rather the Naim defaults to a generic Icon in place of artwork.

Hi Dan, are you able to play any PODCASTS to your Naim HE in your configuration? It does not work for Naim ND5XS2

Hi @michaelb I have DSD off. I have a few files locally that are DSD64 so I will give it a try tomorrow with DSD on.

Sense 3.2.1

- On my Yamaha AVR (A3070), it works well in compatibility mode, but a few quirks in track management: it does not like it when I advance the cursor (gets confused and then may refuse to stop or pause) and when I pause, resume goes back to the beginning of the track. Without compatibility mode, gapless does not work for Qobuz streaming and the display is limited to "streaming from LMS", no track info anymore.
- On my Oppo 205, it is unusable: in compatibility mode it loses connection after a few seconds, and/or plays random tracks. Without compatibility mode, it still is very erratic with a tendency to lose the connection. Stop/pause may not work. When it works, it is not gapless whether for local tracks or Qobuz. So also hardly usable. In 3.1, it worked better withe the profile that you had developed on the basis of the Devialet Phantom (had some issues, but much better than now). I hope you can restore functionality for the Oppo 205...

Thanks for that @DanCollier Those settings working fine here for WAV and FLAC and getting artwork fine from local storage but not Qobuz.

@malfordlad DSD plays fine but only up to DSD 128. I only tried one 256 track and the Statement just kept cycling through the first few steps of the progress bar and then restarting. Couldn't be paused or stopped either. Had to play something else to move on. Tried that twice....

Cheers

Mike

Hi @michaelb, I have an album of DSF files recorded at DSD64 and these do not stream to the NACn272 when the configure streamer setting is DSD support on. The first track is tried for five seconds and then restarts ad-infinitum. This could be a feature of the Naim 1st gen streamer architecture just as easily as it might be a Sense issue. However, set DSD support to off and the album plays OK. I presume that a format conversion on the Innuos Zen kicks in.

This status also requires the display track data on streamer display is set to off. Turning that setting to on and playback failed.

Compatibility mode is very stable and is gapless when streaming from Zenith or Qobuz.

Ideally would like to see the album or radio artwork displayed in Ruark facia.
Also to view the format and bit rate etc on the facia. This is available if not in compatibility mode but then is not gapless.
Finally if possible to pass through the original format (in my case WAV) rather than convert to FLAC.

As Kindly suggested by

Re-posting my own findings with Sense 3.2.

I've been a long time owner of a Innuos Zen Mini Mk3 but I've always had it configured for Roon.
With Sense 3.2 being released I thought I'd give it a try :)

My Zen Mini is not connected to any streamer directly, just sits on the network connected to modem.

When switching mode to Innuos Sense stand alone everything looks good.
A refresh of the available streamers shows everything I have around the house (including some unexpected devices like my Ruark RS1 and R4Mk2 radios).

I tried playback to some KEJ LS60's, a Ruark R410 and some SONOS speakers and again everything was good.

However, I then noticed a few albums wouldn't play, and on further inspection these are MP3 format (downloaded from Amazon Music store).
It appears all my FLAC files are fine but anything MP3 based just wont play.

Is this working as designed / a limitation / or perhaps a known issue (I was unable to find anything similar is the help forums)?
In ROON mode the MP3 albums play fine, so I guess I can rule out corruption with files.

Would love to hear any suggestions or what I may have done wrong?

Many Thanks!

I updated the Zen Mini this morning to version 3.2.1 and immediately lost my streaming Qobuz integration and couldn't display ripped CD's cover artwork on my NAIM. After endless searching on Internet and switching both systems on and off, and looking at forums the above configurations have at last seemed to work in that I can display my ripped CD collection artwork. I had to reinstall Qobuz but cannot display album artwork on my saved Qobuz albums/playlists, although this has been an issue before the latest update. It would be nice to see this sorted as well...

Since update I have been unable to play on local files on the zennith (strangely the hi res files are there) I’m sing multiple Naim devices (NDS, Atom, muso2 and an Ifi Aurora - all devices have the same issue.

Quobuz works fine as does internet radio and my high res files. It’s like since the update all my cd files have been wiped despite them showing on the music home page.

Rebooted a number of times end to end including. Router using compatibility mode 44100 etc.

Any thoughts?

Hello everyone,

The SENSE upnp was so cool … but !!!!

I'd like to tell you about a problem I've just discovered. I think it's since the last update (v3.2.1).

With the new version I changed the settings like above.

I changed the settings because with compatibility mode on, the bitrate on the screens was only 44.1 khz (when HD music plays) Really it wasn’t HD soundwise.

First I've tried to take the ZEN out of compatibility mode, but streaming on QOBUZ no longer works. On the other hand, I can play the files perfectly well on the ZEN's SSD (from 44.1 khz to 192 khz).

Do you have any idea how I can stream music on QOBUZ in HD again? Did I miss something?
Is it an issue the INNUOS team has to address ?

I recall that with compatibility mode on I can stream music from Qobuz but not in HD.

My aim is to continue using SENSEupnp for my streamers, it was such a positive step forward!

For info:
With the METRUM streamer (AMBRE) in front of a TEDDY PARDO DAC everything seems ok.

What's your opinion?
Thanks in advance,

Jean BAUMER

Hello everyone,

I have just made a new test last night taking into account the contributions of some members of the forum.
Thanks to @malfordlad and @michaelb

With the configuration below, streaming on Qobuz in HD is possible again.

Compatibility mode - OFF
Support DSD - off
Display track data - off
Max sample rate - 192khz

For your information, on my old-generation NAIM streamers (no image on the screan), the written display shows the bitrate, the artist and the album. What about a more recent streamer, does it displaying album art?

So for me, finally, version 3.2.1 meets my personal needs, but I haven't yet tested podcasts.

Regards
Jean
