Library insists I have two artists with the same name.

This is doing my head in.

I long ago ripped my 3 Gorky’s CDs. They appear in my library as they ought. I then added 2 more from Qobuz. As you can see above, the spelling of the band name is identical but they show as two separate artists.

Editing the CD artist brings up the artist list and, sure enough, there are two separate entries spelt identically. The usual resolution to this is that you change the CD artist to the other artist entry in the list and all is well. Here that has not worked. When I changed the CD artist to the one Qobuz uses then only one instance of the artist appears instead of two in the library but the CD albums no longer show up. It just shows the 2 Qobuz albums.

I then noticed that despite the CD album covers going awol from the library the actual tracks from the CDs were still listed in the library.

Okay, so, what is going on and how do I fix it?

Gosh, you’re right. I shall go and see whether that’s the fix.

The fault of my VI then. Damn.

EDIT: they are different but when I change the CD ones to match the Qobuz ones that’s when the albums disappear but the tracks remain. So, er, confusingly not solved.

EDIT: 2 I then closed Sense. Went back and when I reopened it all was well. Very odd.

So, anyway, finally…

Hi @mikehughescq , first, good choice! I'm a Gorkys fan as well and was glad to see the BBC sessions recently released.
Yes, as i think you have deduced there can be VERY subtle difference in characters. So you know, these are referred to as 'unicode' characters of which there is a huge number...not even all spaces or '0's are completely identical, and even one tiny thing like a slightly different apostrophe can separate the artist into two entries due to this technical unicode difference. As you have already found, the solution would be to literally copy the artist name from the Qobuz entry, and then paste that as the artist name into your local albums editing screen. This is a rare occurrence, but it can happen especially with albums using unique/rarer languages.
