Calling Sense 3 Beta Testers, who's in?

Updated also smoothly to 3.2.0-4. My questions regarding groups remain (once a player is in a group, it cannot be accessed separately and I have to delete the group first, which is not very intuitive). Furthermore the iPhone app does not display the active player when you press the 3 dots (see attached screenshot)View attachment 253

Hi guardajoias,

Thanks for the feedback.

Regarding the groups indeed once a player is part of a group, there is no individual access to it. The players are all synced anyway, so if you'd go for that player and play something, it would play on the whole group anyway, Otherwise, what would be the expected behavior - would the player leave the group if we played something directly to it? We did want to make it more intuitive to use as we feel the way LMS / Roon implements grouping is quite confusing (IMHO of course).

Regarding the Player name on the collapsed menu, indeed we can reproduce and it's now on the backlog. Thanks again for reporting.

This should not be necessary - if you return to the 'group view' with all its containing players, if you simply tap on the X beside a player it will instantly be removed from the group, and should return again as its own single player in the list of available zones.
That would only work if there are at least 2 other players remaining in the group. IfI want to remove one of 2, then I am told there must be at least 2 players in the group left. Also, what is the point of naming and saving groups if I need to constantly reconfigure them. If there is no technical obstacle, the ideal would be to be able to configure groups without attaching permanently players to a specific group. group 1 could be Players A, B and C, Group 2 could br players B and D, and idi want to play to player B only, I can chose player B without having to remove B from group 1 and erase Group 2...

Hi Nuno,

I agree that LMS is confusing with groups... Ideally, I would like be able to create groups and then choose to play to a group or to an individual player... I could define Group 1 as "All players" for when I want to play everywhere, but keep to option to play only in the living room without erasing or changing the Groups. Another group could be a subset of players that are also included in the All Players group... So at any given time I can chose "All Players", Subset 1, or individual players...Would this work?

No sound at all after I boot up the Zen mk3 and the Accuphase E-5000 with Dac-60 optional plugin module.
The dac does not lock to the signal.
The dac is recognized in Sense.
Have to unplug the usb and connect again, voila music!
This is the only way to make it work.
I’m on 3.2.0-4 now. But I don’t exactly know when this problem was introduced since I have swapped dacs during the last few weeks.
The problem occured for the first time with the Norma Revo dac 2. I had it for a week or so without any problems.
Then I had to unplug and plug in the usb cable every time at start up.
Now I have replaced the Norma dac to the dac-60 plugin module for my Accuphase E-5000 amp.
I still have the same problem every time…..
This is unlikely to be related to Beta. The first thing to check is whether the DAC is USB Audio Class 2 compatible. Some DACs require a setting to change to Class 2. With Audio Class 1 it's very much hit and miss in terms of connection. The other factor may be USB initialization. Some rare DACs require to be connected only after the system is started. Anyway, if you haven't done so, drop us a line on support and we can follow up from there.

I understand your scenario and does make sense but technically it would be quite a bit more complex. So if you're playing one track on a group and decide to play a different track on one of the players of that group, what would happen to the other players in that group - keep playing what they had, start the track also on the other player or stop playing completely? Can get quite complicated...

Our working assumption would be that either groups are permanent or otherwise (let's say a party) they're only sporadic. What we wanted to do was to ensure creating a group was quite fast and easy so we can do them on the spot when necessary without taking too much effort. Perhaps what we could have is "Group Topologies" where we can save as a preset different group sets. Then you just choose what group set you'd like to use. That would be fairly straightforward. What do you think?

It’s class 2. But I have found a workaround. Connecting the dac to the other USB (Backup). I have done 4 startups in two days with no problems.

You cannot pause and then continue with Naim streamers. Clicking unpause changes the play icon and the progress bar starts adavancing but no music plays. You have to start the track again.
Does mute also pause the music as well as setting the volume to zero? In which case does it resume from where paused when you unmute?

Yes, you are right, I had not thought about the case of concurrent streams (which is a great capability of my Innuos devices). I guess that selecting a player that is in a group that is currently playing should be result in a message as « not available - currently playing in Group »… but only if actively playing at that time. The group topologies you describe is pretty much what I am thinking of, provided it also allows individual players.

Anyone else with Naim streamers finding that even the latest version (I'm now on 3.2.1) still has a tendency to randomly stop in the middle albums. As far as I can gather, it's always at the end of a track rather than in the middle. When this happens the progress bar keeps starting and then restarting very shortly afterwards but no music plays.

Most of the time I have to click play on the next track in the album list rather than just hit play at the bottom....

Good question, thank you! Yes, it is I think exclusively with Qobuz. I'll play local files only this afternnon and swee whether that's immune.

UPnP is still very tricky depending on streamer. It generally works with my Yamaha AVR in Compatibility mode (although advancing the track creates risks of instability) and even provides gapless for Qobuz tracks, with my Oppo 205 it is a disaster: disconnecting all the time in Compatibility mode, and very unreliable without it and not gapless at all.

@michaelb: Is your issue with UPNP from a locally stored album or from Qobuz? I have this issue with Qobuz sometimes, but don't know why. OK with locally stored albums.
Excuse the fabulous (mis)typing of my first reply. On my system this seems to be a general problem: not just Qobuz files but locally-stored files as well. All FLAC so far, but then most of my files are. What are your local files?

I have mostly flac files and some wav files. I had seen this problem only on Qobuz so far and when pressing play for a single track part way into the album.

Hi everyone, for all matters regarding SenseUPnP changes from 3.2 please refer to this new thread:

- Zen mk3 at Sense 3.2.1.
- Streaming to Naim NAC-n 272
- streamed with compatibility off, support DSD off, and display track data off, max sample rate 192000
- My issue is when streaming from Qobuz, I play an album, but at the end of each track the same track plays over again. Pressing next starts the same track playing again.

Sorry, I posted this into the Sense UPNP feedback thread also.

Interesting. I've not had that. Are you getting the pause at end of track problem on other occasions or with local files?

Statement also on 3.2.1 streaming in compatibility mode with max sample rate 192,000 to ND555 and Atom HE
