Zenith 3 slightly warm.

New thing for me. My Zenith has pretty much run cold for the past 4 years. Suddenly notice some warmth on top. slightly right of centre. Noticed when it wasn’t playing and it seems pretty random i.e. not necessarily when it’s playing. Not exposed to the sun or any other heat source for most of the day. It’s not hot but it varies between slight warmth and very noticeable warmth.

System is Zeninth into Chord Hugo TT2 into Feliks Arioso 300B. All on nice chunky Hutter Racktime with the Chord on the bottom, Zenith next up, then a gap with some CD boxed sets and the amp on top.

Attached image slightly out of date so the Hutter is now further away from the wall and the sofa etc.

Any clues as to what might be going on?

That’s where the heatsink is for the power supply I think. My kit often feels randomly warmer sometimes than others and out it down to fluctuating mains voltage

Maybe take cover off and just check nothing looks amiss? How warm is warm tho? It could be the processor is working a bit harder with a newer version of sense?

Absolutely won’t be doing that. I’m sight-impaired.

As per the first para of the first post above. Varies between “slight warmth and very noticeable warmth”.

It’s being a pain at present. Can’t get rid of very low speaker hum. Some transformer hum now emerged and then it started running weirdly cold on input 1 (the DAC) accompanied by a clear drop in volume. Working my way through stuff methodically to find solutions.

There were probably a lot of times where heat was produced but you did not realise as you were not checking? There's any number of variables to account for, but as a whole it's completely expected to feel some warmth from the system, especially on the location you describe since its near the convection vent and PSU.

Noted. Thank you. I am probably closer to the system more often than is usual as the new amp is posing some intriguing challenges. I’m used to the Zenith generally being stone cold whereas the Chord Hugo TT2 definitely generates some heat all the time.

Ironic then that at the moment the 300B doesn’t appear to be generating enough heat.

Amp appears to have an issue, which is a shame as it sounds fantastic. Back to base in Poland for a look under guarantee I suspect.
