System Pics anyone interested?

My system consists of a Linn Select Edition DSM, a pair of Linn Keltik speakers powered by a pair of Linn 4100 double stereo amps as it's an active system and each speaker has 4 units to drive so I need X2-4 channel amps, crossovers are in the amplifiers. I have an Innuos Zenith3 2tb server and a Project RPM9 turntable fitted with an Ortofon Cadenza red cartridge and a after market Project power supply. I use all Chord Epic cables everywhere, a Chord 8Switch and a non Chord power supply. All of this sits on a Quadrasipre rack except my two power amps that sit on a central unit. . I stream no internet music and only a little radio and just listen to ripped cd's and records. I have a very dedicated power supply installed by my electrician brother in law who has an almost identical system that incorporates cables with a metal sleeving which helps with unwanted RF. All my stuff has its casings bonded together and to earth and individually everything sits on 3 oak cones to diffuse inner electrical vibrations. I have everything mains connected with some fairly expensive power cables that I made myself using items bought from McRU so really good quality. I have been around this hobby for a very very long time and so I have fine tuned it to the best of my ability and pocket, and It's simply stunning!

A simple setup around a Pulse mini , usb DAC [qudelix] and small Genelec 8010 speakers. The headphone is when needed for the TV [a Sennheiser sender with Sennheiser headphone] ..... a little setup for a small space.1000095779.jpg

Hi, I'm happy to chime in on this. There's a number of variables to consider but essentially it's about vibration on the chassis. The stacked approach means the power supply gets a "damper" on top which does help with vibration. There's no real impact in terms of the toroidal as there's enough distance and metal between the Power Box and Server box to render the influence mute.

Now it does depend if you want to use more specific isolation shelves that are very good at mid to high frequency vibration.

Summing up, there's no ideal generic configuration - it depends a lot on your setup. My view is that stacked normally will provide more benefits in most rack situations but very specialised rack/isolation shelves/feet might flip this around.

Hope this helps.

Nuno
Nuno, is your statement still holding with Stream1 and LPSU1 or is it with the new power supply different? @NVitorino

Nuno is away travelling at the moment, but I think the general sentiment remains the same; stacking can bring an advantage, but if you do happen to have very good isolating/damping furniture and shelves to put the products on, then placing on separates might be better. So, as is often the case, a bit of a 'it depends' with respect to the HiFi rack you are using.

I receive my Stream1 with PhoenixUSB and LPS1 today and based on the comments on stacking, would appreciate opinions on where to install my Stream1 and LPS1.

I have a tight space in a cabinet with steel mesh doors but there is enough width to fit the Innuos devices on any of the shelves.

I had initially planned on lowering the first two shelves by one notch each and placing the Stream1 on one shelf next to the Anthem STR Preamp and the LPS1 on the other next to the Oppo. The order wouldn't matter.

I could also leave the shelves as is and stack them on the bottom of the cabinet next to my Anthem AVM 90. That would make it difficult to turn the AVM 90 if I need to adjust back panel connections unless the Steam1 and LPS1 are easy to temporarily pull out.

I could lower just the first shelf a notch and stack them on the first shelf next to the STR preamp.

I have four 120mm cooling fans in addition to the AC Infinity 17" Aircom T10 Front exhaust cooling fans on top of the AVM 90 and STR. All amplifiers are in a different cabinet.

Thanks.

My first installation attempt. I lowered the shelf one notch and stacked the Stream1 on top of the LPS1. I have a 120mm fan behind the stack and can add a 2nd if recommended. Thoughts? Thanks.

Hi 🙂...
Regarding your question about stacking devices.
I have previously written a few posts in the thread about NOT stacking devices,.read them.

I was also questioned by someone here about my experience in hifi etc.
My experience in hifi and installation etc I have also briefly described in the thread.
Nuno,.owner of InnuOs,states that it can be okay to stack devices (read InnuOs in this case).

That is wrong according to my very long experience in installation and optimization of high-end music systems.
I have had several InnuOs products in the last two years,.currently I have Statement NG with Dr.Sean Jacobs Umbilical cables.
AND,.it delivers definitely worse sound quality if I stack the units on top of each other.

SO,.my advice is, regardless of what others here say, or try to downplay my experience in the field...
Never Stack Devices On Top Of Each Other,.this is if you want to achieve the highest possible musical sound quality.

Good luck with your installation 😃.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

If you still,.for practical reasons, have to stack devices...
Then these feet below are incredibly good,.Stack Audio's AUVA EQ's (see picture).

I stack,.as you probably understood, NOT my devices, but I still have these AUVA EQ's under all my devices.
They lift all my devices to another level,.despite everything being placed in a very good hifi-rack.

Stack Audio has a 60 day money back guarantee,.so it's risk-free to try.
These AUVA EQ's are also incredibly cheap for the performance they deliver.

Thank you for the detailed reply. I have read your previous posts and don't doubt your impressive credentials but I also respect recommendations' from the manufacturer. I do not have an ideal equipment cabinet but I make it work. I welcome all input and respectfully make my own decision based on it. I use Auva 70's under my speaker stands and subwoofers and they work great for my application. Stack Audio didn't have the right solution for my turntable platform so I went with another product.

Thanks again.

but I also respect recommendations' from the manufacturer.
Hello again 🙂...

There is something called 'hifi politics' among manufacturers,.this applies to everyone, not just InnuOs.

▪️Let me give an example:
Regarding Umbilical cables for InnuOs Statement NG.
InnuOs sells Chords Umbilical cables,.this despite the fact that Dr.Sean Jacobs Umbilical cables are better.

How do I know this,.well I have evaluated it myself.
AND,.lots of Statement NG owners have drawn the same conclusions, as they have reported on various high-end forums.

It is also Dr.Sean Jacobs who is the designer of all InnuOs power supplies.
Draw conclusions from the above, vs to stacked devices.
▪️My advice: Listen for yourself.

Below is a picture of InnuOs original Umbilical cables.

Cables? Really, on an Innuos web site? You have lost me and I respectfully ask you don't "help" me anymore. Thank you.

Hi again 🙂...
No problem at all,.your choice, I'm 60+ so I've been through most of it.
I always say it as it is regardless of where,.it benefits us hifi and music fanatics so we don't make bad investments.
And also,.so that manufacturers become better.
My loyalty lies with all hifi friends,.OR,do you @Midway want me to keep quiet about my experience and knowledge, so that hifi friends buy products that deliver worse soundquality.?

Otherwise,.I respect InnuOs a lot, and believe that they have the best support in the industry in all categories.
OTHERWISE,.I wouldn't have gone from Zen mk3 to Zenith mk3, to Phoenix USB-reclocker, to Phoenix NET-switch and now to Statement NG in about 18 months.

But then I have to wish you luck,.and hope that others can give you the additional optimization tips that are important.
This to get the best possible sound quality out of a hifi product...
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
There are many parameters to consider, when installing and optimizing a hi-fi product for the best possible musical experience and sound quality.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

One of the important installation and optimization tips,.concerns the one in the picture below.
But now you have to try to figure that out for yourself.

Now I won't waste any more time on you,.considering your reaction to me.
Good luck trying to get an optimal installation yourself.
Have a nice day...
/Peder 🙂
