System Pics anyone interested?

My system consists of a Linn Select Edition DSM, a pair of Linn Keltik speakers powered by a pair of Linn 4100 double stereo amps as it's an active system and each speaker has 4 units to drive so I need X2-4 channel amps, crossovers are in the amplifiers. I have an Innuos Zenith3 2tb server and a Project RPM9 turntable fitted with an Ortofon Cadenza red cartridge and a after market Project power supply. I use all Chord Epic cables everywhere, a Chord 8Switch and a non Chord power supply. All of this sits on a Quadrasipre rack except my two power amps that sit on a central unit. . I stream no internet music and only a little radio and just listen to ripped cd's and records. I have a very dedicated power supply installed by my electrician brother in law who has an almost identical system that incorporates cables with a metal sleeving which helps with unwanted RF. All my stuff has its casings bonded together and to earth and individually everything sits on 3 oak cones to diffuse inner electrical vibrations. I have everything mains connected with some fairly expensive power cables that I made myself using items bought from McRU so really good quality. I have been around this hobby for a very very long time and so I have fine tuned it to the best of my ability and pocket, and It's simply stunning!

A simple setup around a Pulse mini , usb DAC [qudelix] and small Genelec 8010 speakers. The headphone is when needed for the TV [a Sennheiser sender with Sennheiser headphone] ..... a little setup for a small space.1000095779.jpg

Hi, I'm happy to chime in on this. There's a number of variables to consider but essentially it's about vibration on the chassis. The stacked approach means the power supply gets a "damper" on top which does help with vibration. There's no real impact in terms of the toroidal as there's enough distance and metal between the Power Box and Server box to render the influence mute.

Now it does depend if you want to use more specific isolation shelves that are very good at mid to high frequency vibration.

Summing up, there's no ideal generic configuration - it depends a lot on your setup. My view is that stacked normally will provide more benefits in most rack situations but very specialised rack/isolation shelves/feet might flip this around.

Hope this helps.

Nuno
Nuno, is your statement still holding with Stream1 and LPSU1 or is it with the new power supply different? @NVitorino

Nuno is away travelling at the moment, but I think the general sentiment remains the same; stacking can bring an advantage, but if you do happen to have very good isolating/damping furniture and shelves to put the products on, then placing on separates might be better. So, as is often the case, a bit of a 'it depends' with respect to the HiFi rack you are using.
