Stream3 Random playback during rescan

I have an issue with just one album whereby it takes around 10 seconds before playback starts. This happens when selecting any tracks from the album, which is a CD rip to my Melco server. I think there could be an issue with the files as they won't play from Windows. I deleted and reimported the files from a back but the problem persists.

I thought a rescan may resolve the issue, which It did not. However, during the rescan, my Stream3 started playing random music from Qobuz and subsequent rescans also play random tracks stored on the Melco. I completely powered down the Stream3, my Dela network switch and the Melco but the random playback continues

Hi @JimF , with respects to the random playback, can you go to the SETTINGS and just let me know if SmartQ is enabled? It could just be that this is kicking in, unless you are finding that music is specifically kicking in during rescans even when SmartQ is turned off?

With regards to this one affected album, this is odd - a CD rip that is presumably in either FLAC or WAV should have no issue. If the files themselves do eventually play then I would suspect there is nothing wrong with them.
Presumably you have other CD rips on the Melco and they all play fine/instantly?

Thank you for your reply.

I disabled SmartIQ but this had no impact. I paused tracks that I was playing and when running a rescan, the next track from the album played. In both instances, the albums are imported CD's. I have discovered that this does not happen when the Stream3 is first powered up, despite the last played track appearing at the bottom of the screen.

The situation with the affected album is very odd. I have not experienced this with any other CD rips so have no idea why this is happening. The fact that the tracks won't play using Windows Media Player suggests that there is an issue of some sort, although, and as you say, they would not play via the Stream3 if there is something wrong with them. Getting access to the CD is difficult at the moment so I can't delete the album from the Melco and re-rip it. Oddly, the album played fine with my previous streamer.

Since this is only happening with one album, it could be that its files are corrupted somehow. So you might try re-ripping the CD to see if that solves the problem. Btw before re-ripping, I've found that gently cleaning both sides of an error-prone or unreadable CD with water and a drop of dishsoap can work wonders.

The fact that Windows Media Player cannot play those files may not mean a great deal; historically, file format support for WMP was pretty bad. I think the latest version does support WAV and FLAC, but I am fairly certain that they were not supported on older versions of Windows Media Player, which is perhaps true in your case.
Is the affected album that you mention perhaps quite a different format from all the other CD rips that you did?
Could you also let me know what the output is on the STREAM3 - do you have an output module fitted, and are you using a separate external DAC or are you using a fitted Innuos DAC module in the STREAM?

The album is in the same format (FLAC) as all of the other CD imports and it was imported using the same CD drive.

I have the Phoenix USB Board on loan from a retailer. A new board is on order and this will be fitted in the next day or so. Connection is to a Chord Electronics Hugo MScaler and then to a DAVE DAC.

Regarding the rescan issue, I was speaking with someone at the retailer and during the call, they ran a rescan and the same thing happened.

Did the retailer test this on a STREAM1 or STREAM3 too?
Can I also check which version software the system is on, is it the latest 3.4.1?
And can you confirm that there does need to be music currently in the queue with playback set to pause, or does this still happen if you have a completely empty queue of music? This can be tested by expanding the Now Playing screen, then swiping through the queue screen and selecting the Clear Queue option there.
These would be very helpful details to know to try and narrow down the possibilities!

The retailer tested this using the Straem3.

The system is on version 3.4.1

I cleared the queue as suggested and no music played during the rescan.

I now have another album (a CD rip), where there is a delay when selecting a track. I wonder if the USB Board could be the issue. The new board is being installed today and while the rep from the dealer is here, I will try playing the tracks via the standard USB port on the Stream3.

The issue with delayed playback has been resolved. Some time ago, I used the Sense app to change the artwork and selected images with a high resolution, one of them being 3000 x 3000. My network switch has options to change the line speed, which is set to 1 mbs so it was taking time to render the artwork prior to playing the track. I have updated the artwork with lower resolution images and all is fine now.

Sorry, that should be 10 mps.
