I am facing a bit of a dilemma, so need some personal views. I am getting a Innuos device, that is for certain, but which one.
do I go for the older technology of a HHD , (which I had in my old Windows 98 machine), namely the 2TB version of the Zen MK 3, which budget wise would allow me to purchase some of the more exotic (but budget friendly) power and USB cables, OR do I use ALL my budget and go for the 2TB ZENith MK 3 and use the standard power cable and get a basic USB, as the good one I have now will be way to short at .6 of a meter, and it has the relatively new tech SSD drive. I have both units coming on a home demo in the next 2 weeks, so sound wise I can see what the differences are then, just in the meantime, I need owners opinions as to HHD or SSD, please:confused:

In your shoes I’d go for the best component you can afford, cables (which I consider an important part of the system) can wait… and be upgraded in future. I’d consider also the new NG serie, due to the flexibility offered by different outputs modules, that makes NG devices a better future proof investment.

I started with a Mini MK2 that had a HDD. It showed the potential but the occasional noise of the HDD was an issue. I then upgraded to Zenith Mk3 with SSD and never regretted it. I also have a Mini Mk3 with SSD… I would not go back to HDD, although I understand the HDD in the Zen is much better than the one in the Mini MK2 because it does have memory playing and is of the Mk3 generation… You can always upgrade your cables later, I doubt you could upgrade the HDD to SDD…

Can you boost the budget for the Zen NG ? If not, go for the Zenith mk3. You can add the Pheonix USB and a network filter such as Pheonix NET later & probably second-hand at a later date.

In a word, no. being retired and on a fixed income, am pushing the envelope looking at Zenith mk 3
