I have just had the upgrade done.
Why? My 2TB Zen Mini is only 4 years old. I had a couple of hang-ups. They were fixed via excellent remote report. They also reported that the HDD was failing. Support mentioned the upgrade to SSD and new RAM. I wasn't happy and sat on it for a while before deciding to upgrade. When I updated my back-up drive, I got a back-up failed message. And then a couple of my control points / players (Linn, VLC Media Player and 8Player Pro) couldn't read the contents of the Zen Mini. Sense, Sonos and iPeng were able to access the music. Something wasn't right. Innuos advised they should be able to get the music off the HDD but that I should retain the faulty back-up in case of problems. I decided to go ahead.
Process? Innuos support / shipping is very well organized. From collection in South London to Faro and back took just over one week.
Result? Unit worked out of the box. All music on the HDD was transferred to the SDD. All my devices are now able to access the music. I performed a new back-up to external HDD and that worked perfectly. The unit is working perfectly with noticeable increase in speed of response.
Reflections? To be honest I was going to give up on the server. Almost all of my music is available via my Tidal subscription. It's just that my ripped CDs feel like a big part of me life. I wanted to retain them without having to bring all the boxes out of the loft. I'm very pleased I did the upgrade. But I don't want to have to do it again any time soon.
