I wonder if anyone has experience of or advice about the merits of my buying an external DAC to use with my Zen Mini. I have a modest system - Zen Mini to KEF LSX smart speakers. On-line guidance suggests there is quality to be gained by introducing an external DAC (2nd best to the more expensive option of
Innuos PhoenixUSB Reclocker, which sits outside my budget).

In my opinion, this would not make a ton of sense - the KEF will only digitise an analogue input anyway. Also, the LSX is something of an 'all in one' system that does not really lend itself to have a lot of separates added to it. If you like the LSXs and like having active speakers, I would suggest part-exchanging those for a pair of the LS50W instead which would bring vastly more benefit, and scales much more to external upgrades.
