DSD recorded music and its playback can sound extremely good , as can similarly recorded high resolution PCM. It is fair to say that DSD is a niche format compared to PCM however a growing number of studio owners, recording, mixing and mastering engineers now have access to much better DSD tools to allow them to choose DSD as their preferred format.
A lot more DSD recordings (not High res PCM converted to DSD) are now possible to purchase at online sites such as Native DSD.
An interesting discussion about recording & production with DSD which started on one of the PS Audio forums which includes a lot of input from Blue Coast Records owner Cookie Marciano as well as Paul McGowan (Octave Records) , Ted Smith and others.
