I’m curious to know if anyone who upgraded their Zen Mini MK3 from HDD to SSD could share their experience. I know there’s an 8GB RAM upgrade included, which should make Sense a bit snappier and more responsive. Apart from that, any thoughts on noise? I imagine it’ll be totally quiet when you’re close to the Zen, but it’s already a fairly quiet device. Any sound improvements? I doubt it, but I’m still interested to hear.

Yes, I have, just over a year ago. I like the form factor of the mini and its versatility and don’t really have the space for a Zenith, which I did consider. (I also have the LPSU) Anyway, I enquired through my local dealer and was quoted £740, including shipping to Portugal from the UK. This also included upgrading the 1TB HDD to 2TB SSD. Quite an expensive upgrade, which doesn’t improve actual sound quality, though it does improve general performance and makes most operations generally snappier and of course quieter. I saw it as extending its life mainly, and indeed I think it’s the only option now if you’re buying new. The upgrade was done on my spare mini, which I bought for £425 secondhand, so the total cost was £1155. It wouldn’t make so much sense on a new unit bought at full price, but I’m happy with it, a year on. Total time away was just under 3 weeks, all wonderfully arranged by Audio Destination in Tiverton, Devon, England.

I am wondering a similar thing. I have the Zen mk 3 coming on demo, and wondering if its can be upgraded to SSD (as its newish tech), or just go for the ZENith (which as its above my budget, quality cables etc are out, as is a new dac)

I don’t think the Zen can be upgraded to SSD, I seem to remember there was a recent thread on here. You say the Zenith is out of your budget, but you might be able to find one on eBay for a little more than a new Zen. I’ve added Phoenix USB and NET to my Zen mini, and also a LPSU by buying from eBay. They would have otherwise been out of my budget or I wouldn’t pay the new prices.
