can you place the Zenith MK 3 on its side if space is an issue in your set up?

In a separate question. I am concerned that connecting my MK3 to a unit like Rossini via USB connection will be less SQ quality vs connecting the MK3 via the Lan? Your thoughts? Also what are the best setting to use on the MK3 if you are using a lan connection as to compatibility/UPnP setting etc?

You would be able to test this out for yourself quite easily by using Sense to play via USB, then using Mosaic to stream across UPnP and see which you prefer.
In the Ethernet UPnP approach, you can try SenseUPnP and try with Native DSD support etc but if that presents problems then it will be best to revert to the native Mosaic app.

Stephen, Let me apologize in advance as I am a bit mixed up in my understanding. Ultimately I am looking for the best SQ and storage. I would like to use the Rossini as the DAC and the MK3 for streaming and storage. I can connect via USB or LAN and can try both . Im trying to better understand the setting for each option. Im not sure what is did not do but I kept losing the Rossini Player connection. Should compatibility be on. The rossini can do Native DSD so was not using it ? So if I in fact connect via usb to the rossini what are the best settings to use? Im really trying to get it optimized also as I am thinking of upgrading but want to understand the set and run my listening tests before I invest any more$$$ etc.

No problem Anthony, I'll try to clarify.
Put simply, Ethernet is not an audio output. SenseUPnP servers as a convenience, what is actually happening is handing over data to the streamer in the dCS, and letting that take over as the actual player engine just like in normal UPnP. The Ethernet is a data transfer connection from A to B, which is not the same as a PCM bitstream over USB to a DAC.
So in other words, if you want to retain the dCS just as a DAC, and have the ZENith Mk3 as the streamer, then using USB is the only true way of doing this.
With Ethernet, the ZENith Mk3 is not the streamer, just a server interface 'pushing' a file transfer to the dCS which is the Streamer + DAC.

Is it the same , i.e. the zen is server only in a naim nds connected by ethernet? I thought otherwise.

It's the same situation. Although SenseUPnP gives the illusion the Innuos is in charge, it is only functioning as a bridging interface. In your case, the Naim NDS is the streamer and player engine, and the one in charge of creating the PCM or internal I2S connection to then be decoded into analogue - not the Innuos. Whereas if you use an actual audio output on the Innuos (SPDIF, USB, etc) then it is the Innuos that is the actual source and player sending a bitstream on to a DAC. This does not happen over UPnP.
This also explains why you get a very big difference in sound between the two protocols, because on a digital level two very different things are happening.

thanks for the prompt reply. Explains why I find little sonic difference between sense and the naim app and yet how surprisingly good the usb out to an audioquest cobalt sounds in the same system.
Indeed - the app is not the one dictating the sound in that UPnP setup, it is only there as an interface. The Naim remains the one doing the streaming and the playback.
Whereas via USB, it is a totally different protocol and you really are leveraging much more of the technology and design of the Innuos, and this is why you hear a good difference.
